ABOUT SIGNAL FIVE

STORY FIRST. SYSTEMS SECOND. MISSION ALWAYS.

I’m Erica Lowther, founder of Signal Five Media. I help solopreneurs, small businesses, and mission-driven organizations bring order to the work behind the scenes and clarity to the way they communicate it.

Signal Five may be a new business, but the way I work has been taking shape for a long time.

Built from a lifetime of teaching, service, problem-solving, and figuring out how to make things work.

WHERE SIGNAL FIVE COMES FROM

THE NAME ISN’T JUST A NAME.

Firefighting runs in my family. My father did it. My brother did it. Now my nephew does too. I spent five and a half years with the Northeast R-IV Rural Fire Protection District and was the first woman to serve on the department.

“Signal 5” comes from the fire service, and that experience shaped how I think about communication. When something matters, communication needs to be clear, concise, and understood.

But firefighting is only part of the story. I also spent three years as a paraprofessional and eighteen years teaching homeschool and co-op classes. While I was on the fire department, those two worlds came together when I built a fire prevention program for children and seniors from the ground up.

Story and systems. Communication and teaching. It has always been both.

HOW THAT SHAPES THE WORK

CLEAR ENOUGH TO USE. PRACTICAL ENOUGH TO LAST.

Firefighting taught me to communicate clearly. Teaching taught me to meet people where they are. Both still shape how I work.

Meet people where they are.

You shouldn’t need to speak “tech” to get useful help. I believe expertise should make things easier to understand, and the best systems are the ones people can actually use.

Clear communication. Practical solutions. Built for real life.

THE WORK CONTINUES

STILL TEACHING. STILL BUILDING. STILL SERVING.

Today, I bring those threads together through Signal Five Media and my work with the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum, where I’m helping develop fire prevention programming and Open House activities.

The setting has changed over the years, but the work has a familiar shape: take something important, make it easier to understand, and build a practical way to deliver it.

Different work. Same instinct: make something useful and help it reach the people it matters to.

READY WHEN YOU ARE

LET’S BUILD SOMETHING THAT HOLDS UP.

Whether you need to organize the work behind the scenes, build a better way of doing something, or make what you’re doing easier to see, start with what’s getting in the way.
